This work develops a practical narrative-production workflow for interdisciplinary immersive learning, using a three-part meteorology hurricane lab to connect learning objectives with story, design, and development.

Introduction: From Story Idea to Learning Architecture

Educational immersive narratives succeed when dramatic action and learning objectives are designed together. This work examines the production of a three-part hurricane lab to show how interdisciplinary teams can translate subject-matter expertise into experiences that ask learners to make meaningful, evidence-based decisions.

Workflow: Converging Four Forms of Expertise

The workflow specifies the coordinated work of a content expert, instructional designer, narrative lead, and development lead. It extends ADDIE and R2D2 with Bloom’s taxonomy, concentrating on the Assess, Design, and Reflect stages where learning objectives, narrative beats, and feasible interactions are established before technical assembly.

Contribution: A Transferable Production Method

Grounded in implementation and student feedback from the meteorology lab, the paper contributes a practical workflow for designing immersive narratives in other disciplinary settings. Its central claim is organizational: learning outcomes improve when narrative, pedagogy, and technical production are negotiated as a single system.
